The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved highway development projects worth approximately Rs 15,900 crore on 3 June 2026 for the expansion and upgradation of more than 560 km of national highways across Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
The projects will be implemented under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Toll and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) frameworks to improve road capacity, ease traffic congestion, eliminate bottlenecks, address geometric deficiencies and strengthen regional connectivity and logistics efficiency.
Telangana has received the largest allocation of Rs 7,597.16 crore for the four-laning of 190.76 km of NH-63 and NH-563. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Armoor, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Mancherial while enhancing connectivity to 22 PM Gati Shakti multimodal logistics nodes.
In Madhya Pradesh, projects worth Rs 4,415.60 crore have been approved for the upgradation of 233.653 km of national highways. The scope includes four-laning of the Deshgaon–Julwaniya section and the construction of a 16.20-km greenfield bypass in Khargone district to improve traffic flow and road safety.
Bihar has been allocated Rs 3,936.05 crore under the BOT (Toll) model for the four-laning of the 143.529-km Khagaria–Purnea section of NH-31 and NH-231. The project also includes the development of a 6.729-km greenfield bypass around Purnea city to facilitate faster and more efficient movement of passenger and freight traffic.
Collectively, these highway projects are expected to enhance interstate connectivity, support economic growth, improve freight movement efficiency and contribute to the development of integrated transport infrastructure across the three states.
